What is Gitcoin (GTC)?
Gitcoin describes itself as a community of builders, creators, and agreement, coming together to develop the future of the open internet. Gitcoin builds a community that supports the new Web3 architecture, including tools, technologies and networks, to promote the development of the open source field.
GTC is Gitcoin's governance token, launching at the end of May 2021. To create and fund DAOs governed by Gitcoin, this token is required.
Who started Gitcoin?
Gitcoin was started by Kevin Owocki and Scott Moore. Owocki is CEO, while Moore is Head of Technology Growth and Director of Research.
What is unique about Gitcoin?
Gitcoin is unique in that the platform supports community building, especially open source projects. As of June 2021, more than $20 million in open source projects have been funded through Gitcoin, with more than 160,000 developers creating slightly more than 1,600 projects per month.
Gitcoin aims to create a future vision called "Secondary Land", a digital ecosystem with digital democracy and an emphasis on community building.
How many Gitcoin (GTC) tokens are currently in circulation?
The total supply of GTC is 100,000,000 coins. Of this, 15% will go to the retroactive airdrop, 50% will go to the Gitcoin DAO, and 35% will go to established stakeholders. This retroactive airdrop is for previous Gitcoin users, and this DAO allocation is for governance purposes; existing stakeholders include anyone who has contributed to Gitcoin's build in the past and in the future (at least 2 years for Gitcoin team members ).
